Field Director, Deputy Field Director, and Field Organizer

APPLY HERE

Kat Abughazaleh’s congressional campaign seeks to hire intrepid and outgoing field staff ahead of the 2026 Democratic primary in Illinois’ Ninth Congressional District, including a Field Director, Deputy Field Director, and one or more Field Organizers. These positions are temporary and last until March 20, 2026 with the possibility of extension until November 6, 2026. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until at least June 30, 2025. These are in-person positions which require establishing residence in or near the Ninth District.

Kat’s campaign is about trying new things, because the same old shit isn’t working for Democrats across the country. This will be an opportunity to try out the ideas that made past bosses look at you like you were crazy — or to suggest the ideas that you felt couldn’t even be said out loud in traditional campaign environments. But just like Picasso had to study the Old Masters before getting to the point where he could paint Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (Kat here, my campaign manager wrote that very obnoxious description), we’re also looking for people with some degree of traditional field experience knocking doors, passing out flyers, and registering voters. There are 342,000 residences in the District — and we want to visit every single one.

We’re prioritizing community needs ahead of high overhead and wasteful ad spending. We’re leaving no voter behind, whether they live at the far west end of the District, whether they haven't voted in a decade, or whether they aren’t even registered to vote yet. We want to go everywhere to talk to everyone about everything because constituents need to know that Kat will be a real voice for them in Congress.

Salary: $1,200-$1,600/week, with salary and title commensurate with experience.

Benefits: Monthly healthcare stipend and reimbursements for gas and other relevant travel expenses.

Roles & Responsibilities (variable by position):

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for traditional outreach methods like phonebanking, canvassing, and voter registration events as well as nontraditional outreach around campaign-specific mutual aid and community-oriented events

  • Oversee a massive distributed organizing program of over 1,000 volunteers, ensuring that all volunteers are assigned tasks and responsibilities as efficiently and effectively as possible

  • Respond to volunteer inquiries daily on the campaign’s volunteer Discord server

  • Create a strong sense of community among field staff and volunteers

  • Set and achieve high standards for staff and volunteers, maximizing direct voter contacts and measuring results on a regular basis

  • Develop a meticulous understanding of the Ninth District, its population, and its politics while building strong relationships with local officials, candidates, staff, volunteers, community and business leaders, and partner organizations

  • Provide weekly reports on volunteer activity and direct voter contact to the Field Director and/or Campaign Manager

Requirements:

  • Ties to the Ninth District or the Chicagoland area are strongly preferred but not required

  • Community or campaign organizing experience is strongly preferred but not required

  • Experience with relevant software such as VoteBuilder or MiniVan is preferred but not required

  • Access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the Ninth District

  • Willingness to work outside of traditional office hours in order to staff events and fulfill other campaign duties. We pride ourselves on a healthy workplace and culture and fully expect you to have a life outside of this campaign, but we are a small team that prioritizes flexibility and creativity, which means there will sometimes be nontraditional hours or responsibilities.

  • Full availability in the three weeks leading up to Election Day (February 24-March 17, 2026) and in each week preceding the end of each fiscal quarter prior (June 23-30, 2025; September 23-30, 2025; and December 24-31, 2025 with the exception of Christmas Day)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously
